What if Adam is right? What if everyone really does have one or more specific thing(s) that uniquely define ourselves in this world?
It’s not as easy to define yourself as you might think. “What’s your word?” was a question posed in the movie (and even better book) “Eat Pray Love”, and Elizabeth Gilbert had a hard time answering it, and I have been struggling as well since the question came up.
Daughter? Not unique. Sister? Also not that unique. Hard worker, nope; friend, nuh-uh; known stream-of-consciousness rambler when tired; sorry, try again.
Though these things play a large role in my life, they do not fully define me. I am a daughter and sister by birth, a friend, hard worker and rambler by choice, but everybody has a hard working friend and a friend who rambles on.
What makes you valuable? Indispensable to the people around you? No matter how ordinary you may feel, there is something deep inside you that no one else can touch; that is uniquely yours. I suggest simply starting the hunt, the adventure, I’m finding out now, is in re-discovering yourself.
